Just stumbled across this interesting capture again! That must be some hungry bird! Still, it seems difficult to me that the Cormorant can deal with this fish! The bird was actually able to fit it down that long/skinny neck alright? Smart of the bird to eat it headfirst, didn't consider that maneuver. I have never witnessed an event like this before. I feel somewhat perplexed over how it actually happens, wouldn't the fish stand a chance of escaping or even damaging (it’s sharp fins, wriggling, biting, etc.) the bird's throat/stomach if eaten in that condition?! It’s hard for me to imagine that the potential pray (wouldn't the fish also go into a desperate "survival mode" once it realized that it hit the stomach?) doesn't turn around inside the elastic gullet and how the bird can keep down/digest such an object with no issues? I don't have much knowledge about these events and am mostly curious, I appreciate any feedback/explanation. Sorry for all of the questions, have a good week ;)

That is nature and it is best design ever possible by the creator. It is adaptation by nature. Yes the fish goes into a survival mode and try to wriggle and escape, however he sharp hook shape of the beak locks on with a good amount force, then when swallowed the high acidic juices in the the birds stomach digests evey bit of the fish then on..

Amazing capture! That looks like a big fish (do you know what kind?) caught and not too happy to be staring down its captor's throat here! So does the bird really manage to win the battle and gulp that whole thing okay? Does the fish put up a good fight, if eaten does the unlucky prey get swallowed pretty much alive all the way down as well?!

Hi Kyle Dig, Yes it is quite a big fish, the bird does managed to win and swallow the fish in whole and alive, The bird tossed the fish to make sure it swallows the head first for the reason that the fins should not get caught in its throat .. It is an amazing thing to watch the bird toss the fish and catch it head first. All this happes very fast..
